How long does it take for a published or updated message to appear on the screen?

When you publish new content or update existing content, it normally takes 1-3 minutes for the change to appear on the screen. This article explains how synchronization works and what can cause longer delays.

Typical wait time

In most cases, new or updated content appears on the screen within 1-3 minutes after you publish it.

How synchronization works

The screen syncs with PLAYipp once every minute. At each sync, the screen checks for new content and downloads it if there is any. This means it can take up to a minute before the screen even detects your change, plus the time it takes to download the content.

The object's play duration affects when updates appear

Depending on the type of content, the object currently playing must finish its play duration before an update takes effect.

Example: If an object has a play duration of 30 minutes (30:00), new updates to that object appear only once it has finished playing and starts over. In this case it can take up to 30 minutes for the change to appear, even if the screen has already synced.

Factors that can cause longer delays

It can take longer than 1-3 minutes if:

  1. The screen has a slow internet connection. The content has to be downloaded to the screen, and a slow connection makes this take longer.
  2. The content consists of large files. Large files, such as videos or high resolution images, take longer to transfer to the screen.

Tips for faster updates

  • If an object is updated often, use a shorter play duration so that changes take effect sooner.
  • Compress large files before uploading them to speed up the transfer to the screen.
  • Give the screen a few minutes before troubleshooting. If the content still doesn't appear after the object has finished playing and a few minutes have passed, check the screen's internet connection.
