How to Connect a Physical Screen to PLAYipp

Once you have created a screen in PLAYipp, you need to connect the physical hardware so it can display your content. There are two ways to do this.

Before you begin

There are two methods to connect a physical screen:

  1. Enter the activation code directly - you manually enter the code shown on the screen. Use this method if you have physical access to the screen and a user account in PLAYipp.
  2. Send a connection email - you send a connection email to the person installing the screen. The email contains a link to a portal where they enter the activation code themselves. This is useful when the person installing the screen does not have a user account in PLAYipp.

Before you can connect a physical screen, you need to:

The physical screen must be prepared with one of the following:

  • A correctly installed PLAYport showing an activation code
  • PLAYipp's app installed on the screen. See our installation guides here: How to install PLAYipp

Method 1: Enter the activation code directly

Use this method if you have physical access to the screen and a user account in PLAYipp.

  1. Note the activation code displayed on your physical screen
  2. In PLAYipp, navigate to Screens
  3. Select the screen you want to connect the physical screen to (this can be done in both tree view and list view)
  4. Click "Connect screen"
  5. Enter the activation code shown on the physical screen
  6. Click "Connect"

The physical screen is now connected to your screen in PLAYipp and will display the assigned content.

Method 2: Send a connection email

If the person installing the screen does not have a user account in PLAYipp, you can send them a connection email instead. The email contains a link to a portal where they enter the activation code shown on the physical screen themselves, which activates the physical screen and connects it to the screen in PLAYipp.

Send the connection email

  1. In PLAYipp, navigate to Screens
  2. Select the screen you want to create a connection email for
  3. Click "Send connection email"
  4. Enter the installer's email address
  5. Click "Send Email"
  6. A "Pending activation" status now appears on the screen
  7. The connection email contains the screen name, the address where the screen is physically located, which layout will be shown on the screen, and a link to the portal where the activation code is entered

Enter the activation code (for the installer)

  1. The installer opens the connection email and clicks the link to the portal
  2. They note the activation code displayed on the physical screen
  3. They enter the activation code in the portal
  4. The physical screen is activated and connected to the screen in PLAYipp
