Tags on screens

Coming soon This article describes updates that are not yet available in PLAYipp. The information may change before the release. Feel free to contact our support if you have any questions.

Tags let you label your screens to make it easier to search, filter, and organize them in PLAYipp. You create tags freely and can add as many as you need to each screen.

What are tags?

Tags are keywords that you attach to individual screens. They help you quickly find the right screens when you have many PLAYipp screens to manage. You create the tags yourself and can use them to describe shared characteristics across your screens, regardless of where they are located.

Create a tag

Tags are created and managed via Skärmmeny under Screens. Each tag gets a name, a description and its own color. The color makes it easier to quickly recognize the tag in the list view and tree view.

Add or remove a tag on a screen

You can only add tags that have already been created.

  1. Go to Signage in the main menu.
  2. Select Screens.
  3. Click the screen you want to edit in the tree view or list view.
  4. Open the Settings tab.
  5. Under Tags, add or remove the tags you want to connect to the screen.
  6. Save.

What should a tag be?

Tags work well for describing things that are not already captured by the screen's name or address. Good examples include:

  • Business unit or department, for example Marketing or HR
  • Audience, for example Staff, Customers or Visitors
  • Environment or location within a premises, for example Lobby, Canteen or Stairwell
  • Purpose, for example KPI dashboard or Campaign

Tags describe shared characteristics across screens and make it easy to find and group them regardless of where they are located.

What should a tag not be?

Tags should not duplicate information that already exists in the system. Avoid creating tags for:

  • Geographic location such as country, city or floor. That information is handled by the screen's address.
  • Information that is already known, for example screen name, screen type, layout or rotation.

Filter screens using tags

You can see tags on your screens in both the tree view and the list view, and filter for specific screens in either view.

Tags and screen structure together

In an upcoming update, PLAYipp will introduce a geo-based screen structure (also called tree view) that automatically organizes your screens by country, city, and address. This means location information is already built into the structure.

Tags complement the screen structure by describing properties that the location does not already capture. For example, you do not need to create a tag for Stockholm because that information is already reflected in the screen structure. However, you might add a tag like Reception to describe where on the premises the screen is located.

Together, the two features make it easy to find screens with specific properties at a given location. For example, you can search for all screens located in receptions in Stockholm.

Example: The screen structure gives you: United Kingdom > London > 10 King Street The tag gives you: Reception Together: all screens in receptions at 10 King Street in London.

The geo-based screen structure is launching in an upcoming update. A separate article covering the feature will be published at that time.

Coming soon: Publish based on tags

In an upcoming release, you will be able to publish content directly to all screens that match one or more criteria. You can combine tags with other properties, for example an address from the screen structure. This means you can publish to all screens tagged Reception that are also located at a specific address in London.

You can set up filters using tags and other properties, and the list of screens updates automatically when you add new screens that match the filter.

A separate article on how to publish based on tags will be published as we approach the launch.
