Sony – Installing PLAYipp via RDM

With Sony RDM (Remote Device Management), you can prepare Sony BRAVIA screens centrally and install the PLAYipp app automatically. This guide shows you how to create a device profile, register the screen and provision it so that PLAYipp starts right away.

Before you begin

Make sure you have the following:

• A Sony account (you can also create one when you log in to Sony RDM)
• The screen's MAC address (Ethernet), which is printed on the back of the screen
• A network connection on site, either wired (LAN) or Wi-Fi

Download the following files and save them on your computer. You will need them when you create the device profile.

• The PLAYipp app PLAYipp.apk
• Sony Updater sonyupdater.apk

Create a tenant in Sony RDM

1. Go to https://apps.rdm.sony.net/ and log in with your Sony account.
2. Click Add Tenant and enter a name of your choice, for example "PLAYipp".
3. Select the tenant you just created.

Create a device profile

The device profile contains all the settings the screen receives during provisioning.

Profile settings

1. Go to the Device Profiles menu and click Add Profile.
2. Enter a name of your choice in the Profile Name field.
3. Select the model of your Sony screen in the Model Series menu. You can also select all available models, since this setting only matters if you need separate profiles for different models.
4. Select Pro mode in the Mode menu.
5. Select your region in the Installation region menu.
6. Enter the following ID in the RMS Service Provider ID field: e808a197-710f-40d2-8a84-be040504525f

Register the apps

1. Go to the Apps tab and click Register App.
2. Click Select File and choose the PLAYipp.apk file you downloaded earlier.
3. Tick Automatically Grant Permissions.
4. Click Register App again.
5. Click Select File and choose the sonyupdater.apk file you downloaded earlier.
6. Tick Automatically Grant Permissions.
7. Click Add.

Basic Settings

1. Go to the Basic Settings tab and scroll down to the IP Control section (under Network and Internet).
2. Select Pre-Shared Key in all menus under Authentication.
3. Enter a password of your choice in all Pre-Shared Key fields. Save the password, you will need it in the next section.
4. Scroll down to the Remote device settings section and enable all Control remotely toggles.
5. Scroll down to the Power section and turn off Power saving, Idle display power off, Shut-off when inactive, Shut-off when watching and Auto shut-off in all toggles and menus shown.
6. Scroll down to Developer options, turn on Developer mode and enable all Stay awake toggles.

Pro Settings

1. Go to the Pro Settings tab.
2. Enter a 4-digit code of your choice in the Pro mode lock section. Make a note of the code.
3. Select Android app in the Initial input source menu.
4. Select Signage Player in the Select from apps that have already added profiles menu.
5. Enter sony_auth in all Intent extra key fields.
6. Enter the password from Basic Settings in all Intent extra value fields.
7. Scroll to the bottom and turn off Chromecast built-in, so that content cannot be cast to the screen.
8. Click Save to save the device profile.

Register the screen in Sony RDM

1. Go to the + Device Registration menu.
2. Select Individual Registration and click Registration by Yourself.
3. Enter a name of your choice for the screen in the Device Name field.
4. Enter the screen's MAC address in the MAC Address (Ether) field. The MAC address is printed on the back of the screen. The Model field is filled in automatically.
5. Select the device profile you created in the Profile menu.
6. Click Register.

Prepare the screen on site

These steps assume the screen is in its factory state. If the screen has already been configured, you first need to reset it to factory settings.

The steps differ slightly depending on whether the screen is connected via cable or Wi-Fi.

Wired network (LAN)

1. Power on the Sony BRAVIA screen.
2. Wait until a QR code and a 6-digit authentication code appear on the screen.

Wi-Fi

1. Power on the Sony BRAVIA screen.
2. Select English on the welcome screen.
3. Select Skip on the Quick set up screen.
4. Go to the Wi-Fi settings and connect to your Wi-Fi network.
5. Once connected, restart the screen using the remote control.
6. Wait until a QR code and a 6-digit authentication code appear on the screen.

Important: Do not use the screen for anything other than the steps above, as this may cause provisioning to fail.

Start provisioning

1. Go to the Provisioning tab in Sony RDM.
2. Select one of the options:
   • Authentication by yourself if you are performing the provisioning yourself
   • Authentication by other member if you want to create a shared link so that someone else can perform the provisioning
3. Scan the QR code on the screen with your camera, or enter the 6-digit authentication code manually. Provisioning starts automatically.

Activate the player
