Sony – Installing PLAYipp via RDM

PLAYipp supports Sony BRAVIA professional displays through Sony's Remote Device Management (RDM) portal. This guide walks you through setting up a device profile, registering your screens, and provisioning them with PLAYipp.

Supported Sony models

Prerequisites

Before you begin, download the following files and save them to your local drive – you will need them during setup:

• PLAYipp media unit
• Sony updater

Initial setup – Creating a Device Profile

1. Go to https://apps.rdm.sony.net/ and log in with your Sony account (or create a new one).
2. Click Add Tenant, enter a name of your choosing, and select the tenant.
3. Navigate to Device Profiles and click Add Profile.
4. In the Profile Name field, enter a name, e.g. PLAYipp Digital Signage.
5. In the Model Series drop-down, select the model of your Sony device. (You may select all available models if you do not need separate profiles per model.)
6. In the Mode drop-down, select Pro mode.
7. In the Installation region drop-down, select your region.
8. In the RMS Service Provider ID field, enter:

   Adding apps

9. Go to the Apps tab and click Register App.
10. Click Select File and choose PLAYipp.apk. Tick Automatically Grant Permissions and click Register App.
11. Click Register App again. Click Select File and choose sonyupdater.apk. Tick Automatically Grant Permissions and click Add.
    
    

    Basic Settings

12. Go to the Basic Settings tab and scroll to IP Control (under Network and Internet).
13. Set Authentication to Pre-Shared Key and enter a password of your choosing. Copy this password to your clipboard – you will need it later.
14. Scroll to the Power section and disable both Power Saving and Idle display power off.
15. Scroll to Developer options and enable Stay awake.

16. Go to the Pro Settings tab.
17. In Pro mode lock, enter any 4-digit number.
18. Set Initial input source to Android app.
19. In the Select from apps that have already added profiles drop-down, select Signage Player.
20. In Intent extra key, enter: sony_auth
21. In Intent extra value, enter the password you copied in step 13.
22. Scroll to the bottom of Pro Settings and disable Chromecast built-in.
23. Click Save to complete the Device Profile.

Registering your devices

1. Go to + Device Registration and select Individual Registration → Registration by Yourself.
2. In Device Name, enter a name of your choosing.
3. In MAC Address (Ether), enter the MAC address of your device (found on a label on the back of the screen). The Model field will populate automatically.
4. Under Profile, select the profile you created above.
5. Click Register.

Provisioning

These steps assume the device is in an out-of-the-box state. If the device has already been configured, perform a factory reset before continuing.

Wired LAN

1. Power on your Sony BRAVIA.
2. Wait for a QR code and activation code to appear on screen.

Wi-Fi

1. Power on your Sony BRAVIA.
2. Select English on the Welcome screen and Skip on the Quick set up screen.
3. Connect to your Wi-Fi network.
4. Once connected, reboot the device using the remote control. Do not interact with the device in any other way – this may cause provisioning to fail.
5. Wait for a QR code and activation code to appear on screen.

Starting provisioning

1. In the RDM, select the Provisioning tab.
2. Choose Authentication by yourself if you are doing it yourself, or Authentication by other member to generate a shared URL.
3. Scan the QR code on the BRAVIA or enter the 6-digit code manually. Provisioning will start automatically.

Activation

Once provisioning is complete, PLAYipp will launch on the screen. Follow the steps in Activate Signage Screens to connect the player to your PLAYipp account and start displaying content.
