Screen settings
You can find the screen settings by clicking on a screen in the tree or list view under Signage > Screens. Here you can configure your screen and access diagnostics tools. The screen view is divided into two tabs: Settings and Diagnostics.
Contents
The Settings tab
The Settings tab contains all configurable options for your screen. Click Edit next to each setting to make changes.
Screen name Give your screen a descriptive name that makes it easy to identify, for example "Entrance", "Conference room 1" or "Reception". The name appears in the screen list and makes it easier to manage multiple screens.
Address Shows the address of the screen. The information is automatically retrieved from the location you have assigned to the screen.
Subscription Select which subscription the screen should be connected to. Read more about how to connect a subscription to a screen here: My screen has been disabled.
Layout Select which layout should be displayed on the screen. The layout controls how content is organized and presented. Read more about how to change the layout here: Change Screen Layout
Preparation layout Select a layout for the screen to use in standby mode, for example when no content is scheduled. Read more about Preparation layouts here: Preparation layout
Connected screen Shows which physical device is connected to the screen in PLAYipp.
Tags Add tags to the screen to make it easier to filter and group screens in the screen list.
Notes An optional field where you can add your own notes about the screen, such as contact information or technical details.
Time and region Set the time zone for the screen if it differs from the default setting (Central European Time). This affects how scheduled events and time-based content are displayed. Note that this setting is supported by some devices but not all. If the time zone cannot be changed here, you will need to adjust it directly on the device.
Energy saving schedule Set a schedule for when the screen should enter energy saving mode. If no custom schedule is set, the screen will follow the global settings. Read more about global settings here: Globlar screen settings
Restart schedule Set when the player should restart. If no custom schedule is set, the player will follow the global settings. Read more about how to change the restart schedule here: Why does my player restart each night?
Rotate screen 180° Enable this setting if the screen is mounted upside down and you want to flip the content via software. Note that Samsung screens with PLAYipp's built-in app do not support software rotation. Read more about screen rotation here: The image on the screen is rotated
External storage Enables the use of a USB memory device to expand the storage capacity of the device. Content is still uploaded via PLAYipp as normal. Note that this feature is not supported by all devices.
Delete screen At the bottom of the settings page you will find the Delete screen button. Read more about how to delete a screen here: How to delete a screen
The Diagnostics tab
The Diagnostics tab contains technical information about the screen and tools for troubleshooting issues. The tab is divided into three sections: Screen details, Screen commands and Screenshots.
Screen details
This section displays technical information and the current status of your screen, divided into three parts.
Screen information General information about the screen and the account it is connected to, including screen name, address, tags, subscription, subscription expiry and which users have access to the screen.
Physical screen Technical information about the connected device:
- Screen ID: the device's unique identifier (MAC address)
- Device type: type of hardware, for example PLAYport HD 3288-5
- Serial number
- Revision: software version
- Activation date: the date the screen was activated in PLAYipp
- Screen time: current time on the device
- Uptime hardware: how long the device has been running since the last restart
- Uptime software: how long the software has been running since the last restart
Network Information about the device's network connection:
- IP address
- MAC address Ethernet
- MAC address WiFi
- WiFi signal strength
- Latest contact with server: the time the screen last communicated with PLAYipp's servers
Note that the information in Screen details reflects the most recent data sent from the device. If the screen has not synchronized recently, the information may be outdated. Check "Latest contact with server" to see when the screen last communicated with PLAYipp.
Screen commands
Screen commands allow you to send direct commands to the player to resolve common issues.
Restart Restarts the player. A good first step if you are experiencing problems with the screen.
Clear cache Forces the player to re-download all content. Use this if the information on the screen is outdated or if content is not updating as expected.
Reset tokens Resets the authentication tokens so the device can re-authenticate. This action should only be performed if a factory reset has been carried out on the device.
Screenshots
Here you can take and manage screenshots of what is currently being displayed on the player. It may take a few minutes for a screenshot to be generated.
Screenshots are useful if the preview in PLAYipp looks correct but the physical screen is showing something different. You can take new screenshots, view previously taken screenshots and delete individual screenshots or all of them at once.
